A first half of two penalties – one scored and one missed – decided the outcome of the Indian Super League match between Jamshedpur FC and Chennaiyin FC, with the latter winning 1-0 on Thursday.
The first half saw most of the action as both teams lacked finishing in front of goal. As the first half was about to come to a close, Mehtab Hossain took a tumble in his own box and handled the ball in the process. Jeje Lalpekhlua stepped up for Chennai and sent Jamshedpur goalkeeper Subrata Pal the other way to net his fourth goal of the season.
Chennaiyin manager John Gregory was fuming at the touchline and was sent into the stands for his reaction.
Jamshedpur were also awarded a penalty when Bikash Jairu was brought down by Chennai captain Henrique Sereno. However, stirker Kervens Belfort’s effort was saved by Chennai goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.
The second-half was a dull affair as both teams failed to net a goal. There was a drop in momentum as Steve Coppell’s side were seen chasing the ball most of the time.
With the win, Chennaiyin are four points clear on top of the table now, but have played two games more than second-placed FC Goa. It also means they’re unbeaten in three games now.
